Day
1. Gocek - Wall Bay
The charming village of
Gocek where we welcome our guests aboard Slypuss is just 20
minutes by taxi from Dalaman International Airport on Turkey's southern
coast. Gocek lies at the head of Skopea Liman in the spectacular Fethiye
Bay and is a major yachting centre. The guests settle into their cabins
and enjoy lunch aboard Slypuss. In the early afternoon, we sail south
through this area of outstanding beauty with islands galore, pineclad
mountains and turquoise blue waters. We spend the evening in one of many
idyllic anchorages - Wall Bay named
after the Byzantine wall on its eastern side. Enjoy a walk through the
pines along the water's edge or take the dinghy to Cleopatra's
Baths. Dine under the stars at a splendid but simple waterside
restaurant serving excellent fare baked in clay ovens. The setting is
perfect.

Day
2. Wall Bay - Gemiler Adasi
After a leisurely breakfast aboard Slypuss, we leave Wall Bay
and weave our way in and out of numerous bays - Tomb
Bay, with its ancient tombs high up in the cliffs - Tersane,
the site of an ancient boatyard, and many more. By mid morning, we feel
the breeze and set sail eastwards towards Gemiler Adasi. Adasi
means island in Turkish, and this island is strewn with Byzantine antiquities
including a fabulous arched walkway falling steeply to the sea. The view
from the top of the island is spectacular and a "must" for all visitors.
Otherwise visit Olu Deniz, the most
photographed beach in Turkey. As the sun slips away, guests enjoy cocktails
aboard Slypuss before having supper ashore. A serenade of very bad violin
playing by the restaurant owner is numbed by a glass of the local rakki
- Lion's milk. The food is good and it's a fun evening!

Day
3. Gemiler Adasi - Kastellorizou
We
sail early today heading east past the awesome Seven
Capes and Patara Beach, 16 miles of golden sands, towards the
Greek island of Kastellorizou. The scenery is arid but spectacular, and
the sailing can be exhilarating. Kastellorizou
is the most eastern of the Greek Islands and lies just 2 miles off the
Turkish coast opposite Kas. We take Slypuss stern to the village quay
and enjoy the scene over lunch. Colour washed houses, splendid Greek Orthodox
churches, pretty tavernas, brightly painted fishing boats; Kastellorizou
has been the set for several films - pure magic. It is a wonderful place
to walk or just sit in the shade of a taverna, sip a glass of retsina
and listen to a Greek tale or two. Evenings can be wonderful here and
Zorba always sounds so special!

Day
4. Kastellorizou - Ucagiz Liman
Early
in the morning, it is possible to take a fishing boat to the Blue
Grotto, sparkling blue waters in a magnificent cave. Otherwise
we bid farewell to this enchanting island and sail east, past Olu
Burun which is the site of the oldest known shipwreck in Turkey
where Dr. George Bass recovered artefacts now exhibited in Bodrum Museum.
And on to the area of the sunken city known as Kekova.
We lunch at Polemos and guests can
visit the ancient harbour of Aperlae.
We then sail gently down Kekova Roads and through the rock strewn entrance
to an inland sea on whose shore lies Ucagiz Liman.
Dominated by the mosque, it is a quaint little village not belonging to
the 21st century. Sarcophagi abound, cattle and goats roam freely and
the ladies of the village still wear pantaloons, headscarves and cover
their arms in the time honoured tradition of the Moslem faith.

5. Ucagiz Liman - Kas
After breakfast, guests may take the dinghy and visit a magnificent
fortress standing dramatically over the village of Kale
Koy. The walk up to the castle is steep but the view is breathtakingly
beautiful. An amphitheatre is cut into the rocks within the castle and
the surrounding slopes are dotted with sarcophagi. The area of the sunken
city can be perceived fully from this spectacular vantage point. It can
only be describes as an awesome experience. And then back to dear Slypuss
and we start our journey back up the coast, stopping today in Kas.
Like many villages along the coast, it was Greek until 1922 and the Greek
architecture remains today. It is a pretty village, colourful and floral
with quaint little streets, interesting shops and a lively nightlife.
It also boasts a Hellenistic amphitheatre with superb views to the sea.

6. Kas - Kalkan (Visiting the Capital of Lycia)
Slypuss
tacks her way up the coast and enjoys the challenge of the sea. She
is heading for the picturesque harbour of Kalkan,
another floral colourful village clinging to the hillside. Guests can
visit ancient Xanthos, Letoum and Patara which are all fascinating
sites and just a short drive away. Back to Slypuss for a swim, a shower
and a sundowner before supper!
Day
7. Kalkan - Capi Creek
An
early start to sail back up the coast past the Seven Capes into Fethiye
Bay where we can stop for lunch in one of the many pretty
anchorages; take a swim or snorkell, or simply take it easy and relax
under the shade of the awning. We anchor in Capi
Creek for the evening, a land locked bay with crystal clear
water and an excellent restaurant set in the pine trees.
Day
8. Capi Creek - Gocek
Our
final sail up to Gocek; we exchange
addresses and hugs and bid sad farewells. Crew and guests aboard Slypuss
for just one week can become great friends, have lots of fun and good
conversation, always making for sad farewells. We look forward to the
next time.
