SICILY
7-Day Sample Itinerary |
 |
Board your yacht at the base in Palermo. After your checkout and chart briefing, settle in, then take time to explore the Old Town.
Day 1:
Set sail for Cefalu, a tiny port beneath a bare and massive limestone cliff that falls sheer to the sea. See the spacious Piazza del Duomo and the magnificent mosaics in the Cathedral.

Day 2:
Sail to the Aeolian Islands, where your first port of call is Filicudi. Explore the basalt caves on the west coast.
Day 3:
Sail to Salina, a small island with two extinct volcanoes, then go on to Panarea for the night. Here you'll find an extraordinarily well preserved Bronze Age village site.
Day 4:
Today's island is Lipare, the largest of the Aeolian group. Climb the rocky promontory to the Castello. Within are the Cathedral and three other interesting churches, plus an archeological museum.

Day 5:
Sail south across the narrow Bocche, past the 200-foot high basalt cliff called Pietralunga, to Vulcano. This is an excellent place to study volcanic activity- there are three craters, and the water of the harbor sometimes boils from underwater emissions of steam. They say it's therapeutic!
Day 6:
Sail back to Sicily and Cefalu. Find a cozy cafe for your evening meal.
Day 7:

Sicily
On the island of Sicily, the largest in the Mediterranean, Mount Etna towers above a wealth of historic and artistic trasures and some of the most striking landscapes in the world. As you travel, you'll discover pristine beaches, Romanesque, Norman, and Baroque churches, and the best-preserved Greek temples to be found anywhere. From the base in Palermo, on the north coast, you can sail east to the Aeolian Islands a rugged archipelago of seventeen volcanic mountains rising from the sea bed, aptly named for the Greek god of wind. Ten of the islands are wildly beautiful and uninhabited.
Our second base in Sicily is located in Marsala, a picturesque town, founded by the Carthaginians but took the name from the Arabs, Marsal-Allah (harbour of God), which is known for the popular wine.
Marsala is a pleasent and relaxe place from where you can sail NW and visit the Egadi Islands: Favignana, Marettimo and Levanzo, or sail South and wisit Pantelleria, an island of volcanic origin, and Lampedusa, a barren rocky island that has recently become popular for the best underwater fishing around the coast.
There are so many places to visit that you may find that one sailing vacation in Sicily simply isn't enough.
Wind and Weather
The summer months are dry and delightful in the Med. Temperatures range from the high 70's in May and September to the 80's in June, July, and August. Winds here have romantic-sounding names and vary in strength and direction. Your Charter Coordinator can help you choose the sailing area, yacht, andseason best suited to your skill and comfort.
